It’s official — new park to be built on Naperville’s south side will be Wolf’s Crossing Community Park

“We’re thrilled about that,” Eric Shutes, director of planning for the park district, said Friday.

Earlier this year, Ginny Wolf Chivas addressed the park board about honoring her ancestors with the park’s name. Amos Wolf settled in the area 173 years ago, she said.

Traveling from Lancaster, Pa., in 1846, Wolf walked, rode barges on the Erie Canal, a boat in the Great Lakes and then an ox cart to Will County, Wolf Chivas told the board. Part of the land he and his relatives farmed is where the new park is located, she said.

Task force may help guide process of ending road district, moving it to Naperville Township jurisdiction

A seven-member task force may begin meeting this spring to help advise Naperville Township and road district officials on consolidation between the two groups.

More than 75% of voters April 2 said they want the Naperville Township road district consolidated with the rest of the township. As a result, the Naperville Township highway commissioner position will be eliminated in 2021 when the road district — a separate taxing body — is dissolved and its responsibilities moved to the jurisdiction of the township.

The topic was raised Tuesday at the Naperville Township Annual Meeting, Supervisor Eddie Bedford said. A proposal that a seven-member task force be created to advise on consolidation gained unanimous support from the 85 or people in attendance at the meeting, Bedford said.

Southwest Community Park in Naperville has a new name.

Ground will be broken at 4:30 p.m. June 19 on Wolf’s Crossing Community Park. The Naperville Park Board approved the new moniker at Thursday night’s meeting.

The name change had been discussed for several months. It recognizes the contributions of the Wolf family, which helped settle the area now known as Naperville.
