Local schools should decide if drills are appropriate, District 204 board says

Schools statewide should have the final say when it comes to safety exercises, like active shooter drills, and encourage students to register to vote, according to Indian Prairie District 204 School Board members.

For the past several years, the school board has taken an active role in suggesting school-related legislation that could be backed by the Illinois Association of School Boards and its member districts.

The measures must get the approval of an association’s resolutions committee late this summer before they are voted on before the full IASB assembly in November.

District 204 schools outrank Naperville 203 in report

In the battle for best school bragging rights, Indian Prairie School District 204 bested Naperville School District 203 in the 2015 Niche Rankings.

Each year Niche.com ranks the top K-12 schools and schools districts, colleges and communities across the Americas. The company bases its grading and ranking system on statistics from various public sources and its own proprietary data and 4.6 million survey responses across a variety of topics from 287,606 students, recent alumni and parents.

While both districts 204 and 203 each received A+ grades, Indian Prairie ranked fifth in Illinois right above the Naperville district, which was ranked sixth.
