Naperville woman won't withdraw from ballot despite DuPage County error that makes her ineligible to run for state seat

Naperville woman won't withdraw from ballot despite DuPage County error that makes her ineligible to run for state seat

Val Montgomery is not backing out.

A Facebook message posted late Friday afternoon by the Naperville Democrat says she will not remove her name from the ballot for the 41st District House seat even though she actually lives in the 49th District. An error made by the DuPage County Election Commission resulting in Montgomery being told she lived in the 41st District, where she was attempting to oust state Rep. Grant Wehrli, R-Naperville.

“My opponent doesn’t seem to want to discuss issues or voting records,” Montgomery wrote. “So, when people show you who they really are, listen. Political corruption and white privilege are real and happen in too many places. The only thing I am guilty of is being a black woman in Naperville. This is not the first time a black woman in (Illinois) has run for office and suddenly issues with residency emerge.”

D204 joins Will County school district push for 1% sales tax hike to fund building work

Indian Prairie District 204 has joined a growing list of Will County school districts that will ask voters to implement a sales tax that could bring an extra $5.4 million in income to the district.

District 204 Chief School Business Official Jay Strang said more than a dozen school districts have signed on to place the question on the November ballot in Will County asking for a 1 percent “County School Facilities Sales Tax.”

Money collected by the county would be distributed to school districts based on the number of students who live in Will County.
