Naperville women reviving effort to get Equal Rights Amendment passed in Illinois

Naperville women reviving effort to get Equal Rights Amendment passed in Illinois

Illinois continues to debate three sentences that could grant women equal rights across the country.

Four women’s groups from Naperville will visit the state Capitol this week to rally and lobby lawmakers to ratify legislation first introduced to Congress nearly a century ago: the Equal Rights Amendment.

While members of the Will County chapter of the National Organization for Women, the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women and Act Connect Engage say the amendment is needed now more than ever, opponents counter by saying Congress and the states need to go back to the drawing board because the existing language could hurt women in the long run.
